Deadlift

A Barbell deadlift from the Floor to a locked-out standing position, a benchmark of pure strength.

Deadlift Standards

For a deadlift to be considered valid:

  • The bar must start on the Floor
  • The lifter must the bar to a standing position
  • The hips and knees must be fully extended
  • The shoulder must be back at lockout

The lift is invalid if:

  • The lifter Fails to reach full lockout
  • The bar is dropped Before lockout

Visualizing Depth

A proper deadlift begins with the bar resting on the floor and requires controlled execution throughout the lift. The bar must be lifted smoothly while maintaining a neutral spine, with the hips and shoulders rising together. To complete the lift, the athlete must stand fully upright with hips and knees locked out, demonstrating full control at the top.
